UBX0601 is a **small molecule Bcl-xL inhibitor** and the active parent compound released from the prodrug UBX1325 (foselutoclax). UBX0601 targets senescent cells by selectively inhibiting the anti-apoptotic protein Bcl-xL (BCL2L1), a key member of the Bcl-2 family of apoptosis-regulating proteins. This inhibition induces apoptosis specifically in senescent cells within ocular tissues, promoting their clearance while sparing non-senescent cells[1][3][5]. The main therapeutic rationale is to reduce pathogenic senescent cell burden in retinal diseases to preserve or restore visual function.
