Overview
UC-112 is a small molecule inhibitor of survivin (BIRC5), a member of the inhibitor of apoptosis (IAP) protein family. Developed by researchers at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, UC-112 demonstrates potent antiproliferative activity across multiple cancer cell lines, including those with multidrug resistance such as melanoma. The compound works by selectively suppressing survivin protein levels, which are often overexpressed in tumors and associated with resistance to apoptosis and poor clinical outcomes. UC-112 has been utilized as a scaffold for the design of next-generation analogs with improved potency and pharmacological properties.
