UCMSC-Exo refers to exosomes derived from umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells. These nanoscale extracellular vesicles are secreted by umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells and contain a variety of bioactive molecules such as proteins, microRNAs, and growth factors. They are being developed as a cell-free regenerative therapy with multiple potential indications. Mechanistically, UCMSC-Exo can modulate immune responses, promote tissue repair and regeneration (including hematopoietic recovery), reduce oxidative stress-induced cellular damage by inhibiting MAPK/JNK/NF-κB signaling pathways, and exert antiviral effects by upregulating interferon-stimulated genes (ISG15/ISG56) to inhibit viral replication[9][4][6]. Clinical studies have investigated their use in treating chemotherapy-induced myelosuppression in acute myeloid leukemia (via intravenous infusion), chronic cough after COVID-19 infection (via nebulized inhalation), and thin endometrium secondary to intrauterine adhesions (via subendometrial injection)[4][5][6]. Preclinical research also suggests benefits for anti-aging skin repair and antiviral activity[9].
