Overview

UCPVax is a therapeutic cancer vaccine composed of two peptides (UCP2 and UCP4) derived from human telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT). It induces a strong T-helper 1 (TH1) CD4-positive T-lymphocyte immune response specifically targeting telomerase-expressing tumor cells, promoting cancer cell destruction. The primary mechanism stimulates an anti-telomerase immune response, relevant because telomerase is overexpressed in many cancers. UCPVax is evaluated primarily for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), HPV-positive cancers, and unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma. Clinical studies have shown safety, immunogenicity, and potential to improve overall survival when used alone or with immunotherapies like atezolizumab.
