Udonitrectag is a low molecular weight, synthetic peptido-mimetic of human nerve growth factor (NGF), designed to mimic the activity of NGF by binding to and activating neurotrophin receptors. It acts as an agonist at the p75 neurotrophin receptor (p75NTR) and tropomyosin receptor kinase A (TrkA) receptor, promoting cell survival, differentiation, and trophic support. Udonitrectag is being developed primarily for ophthalmic indications such as keratitis and neurotrophic keratitis but has also been investigated for diabetic foot ulcer, choroideraemia, reperfusion injury, skin disorders, varicose ulcer, pressure ulcer, retinitis pigmentosa, among others. The drug has orphan designation for transplant rejection and keratitis. Its mechanism involves inhibition of apoptosis and autophagy in addition to its neuroprotective effects[3][5][6].
