Overview

UFRJvac is a recombinant protein subunit vaccine developed by the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) for the prevention of COVID-19. The vaccine is based on the production of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein in mammalian cells (HEK293), which is then purified and formulated with an aluminum hydroxide adjuvant. The trivalent formulation is specifically designed to act as a booster, targeting multiple variants of the SARS-CoV-2 virus to provide broader protection. It is currently in Phase I clinical trials to evaluate its safety and immunogenicity in humans, with development support from partners such as Azidus Brasil.
