Overview

**UGP281** is a proprietary anorexigenic peptide developed by Unigene Laboratories as a calcitonin analog with enhanced appetite suppressant activity and reduced bone anti-resorptive potency. It selectively targets the amylin receptor to reduce food intake and body weight, demonstrating superior efficacy compared to other peptides in preclinical rat and dog models, where subcutaneous doses achieved up to 84% acute food intake reduction and 8-15% sustained weight loss, and oral enteric-coated capsules produced >8% weight reduction over 5 weeks. Planned for oral delivery using Unigene's Peptelligence platform, it was well-tolerated in animals, with an IND filing and Phase 1 initiation targeted for 2012 to address morbid obesity.[1][2][5][7]
