UI117

UI117 is a small molecule drug candidate being developed by Korea United Pharm for the treatment of alopecia (hair loss). It is classified as an Incrementally Modified Drug (IMD), a regulatory category in South Korea for pharmaceuticals that involve the reformulation or modification of existing drugs to improve safety, efficacy, or patient convenience. UI117 is a new formulation of dutasteride, a dual inhibitor of the type 1 and type 2 isoforms of 5-alpha reductase. By blocking these enzymes, the drug prevents the conversion of testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT), the primary androgen responsible for the miniaturization of hair follicles in androgenetic alopecia. UI117 is currently in the formulation research and development stage, focusing on optimizing delivery to enhance therapeutic outcomes compared to conventional oral treatments.
