Overview

UIO 525 is a genetically-engineered oncolytic adenovirus developed for cancer immunotherapy, specifically targeting muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC). Originally part of a preclinical program at Unleash Immuno Oncolytics, the drug was licensed to TransCode Therapeutics in 2024 as part of a broader portfolio including UIO 524 and UIO 526. UIO 525 is designed to selectively replicate within and lyse tumor cells, a process that releases tumor-associated antigens and stimulates a systemic anti-tumor immune response. This next-generation oncolytic virus aims to provide a therapeutic option for solid tumors that may overcome the limitations of earlier viral therapies, potentially offering a less invasive alternative to radical cystectomy for bladder cancer patients.
