Overview
The UKALL60+ chemotherapy protocol is a standardized treatment regimen developed for older adults (aged 60 and over) with newly diagnosed (de novo) acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). Investigated in the Phase 2 UKALL60+ trial (NCT01616238) led by University College London, the protocol is stratified into four pathways based on Philadelphia chromosome (Ph) status and patient fitness. Pathway A incorporates the tyrosine kinase inhibitor imatinib alongside chemotherapy for Ph-positive patients, while Pathways B, C, and D utilize varying intensities of combination chemotherapy (Intensive, Intensive-plus, and Non-Intensive) for Ph-negative patients. The regimen includes induction, intensification, consolidation, and maintenance phases over approximately 2.5 years, aiming to improve the typically poor outcomes in this elderly population by providing a feasible and tolerable standard of care.
