Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ultimate Ulcer Cream is a veterinary pharmaceutical combination product developed by Abler for the treatment and prevention of Equine Gastric Ulcer Syndrome (EGUS). It contains two active ingredients: omeprazole and ranitidine. Omeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that suppresses gastric acid secretion by irreversibly binding to the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme system at the secretory surface of the gastric parietal cell. This action blocks the final transport of hydrogen ions into the gastric lumen, providing long-lasting suppression of acid production. Ranitidine is a histamine H2-receptor antagonist that competitively inhibits the action of histamine on the H2 receptors of parietal cells, leading to a rapid reduction in both the volume and acidity of gastric juice. This dual-mechanism approach is designed to provide both immediate and sustained relief from gastric acidity, facilitating the healing of existing mucosal erosions and protecting the equine stomach lining during periods of stress, high-grain diets, or intense exercise.
