Drug intelligence / Profile preview
ultraBAUM is a preclinical whole-cell vaccine candidate developed by Biological Mimetics for the prevention of *Acinetobacter baumannii* infections. The vaccine is produced using a proprietary UVC inactivation platform, which utilizes ultraviolet-C light to cross-link genomic DNA and RNA, rendering the pathogen non-replicative while maintaining the structural integrity of surface proteins and epitopes more effectively than traditional chemical inactivation methods like formalin. It is formulated with the adjuvant muramyl dipeptide (MDP), a synthetic analog of a peptidoglycan constituent that acts as an agonist for the NOD2 receptor to stimulate a robust innate and adaptive immune response. ultraBAUM is designed to provide broad protection against multi-drug resistant (MDR) strains of *A. baumannii*, which are significant causes of healthcare-associated infections such as ventilator-associated pneumonia and bloodstream infections.
