Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ultratrace iobenguane I 131 is a radiopharmaceutical formulation of iodine-131–labeled metaiodobenzylguanidine (MIBG) manufactured using Molecular Insight’s Ultratrace technology to achieve very high specific activity by eliminating non-therapeutic “cold” MIBG molecules. It is designed to deliver targeted beta radiation to tumors that take up MIBG, such as neuroendocrine tumors including pheochromocytoma, paraganglioma, and neuroblastoma, enabling systemic radiotherapy while minimizing off-target radiation exposure. Development involved Molecular Insight Pharmaceuticals (later acquired into the Progenics/Lantheus radiopharmaceutical portfolio), with Ultratrace iobenguane I 131 serving as the high–specific activity precursor to the commercial product iobenguane I 131 (AZEDRA) used in these rare cancers.
