Overview

UM-8790 is a cannabinoid-based therapeutic candidate developed by the University of Mississippi and previously optioned by Nemus Bioscience (now Skye Bioscience). It was specifically investigated for ocular delivery to treat conditions such as glaucoma and ocular hypertension. The drug's mechanism of action involves the activation of cannabinoid receptors, particularly the CB1 receptor, which is known to play a role in regulating intraocular pressure by enhancing the outflow of aqueous humor. Although it was part of an early portfolio of cannabinoid assets that included UM-5050 (NB1111) and UM-5070, UM-8790 did not progress into advanced clinical development as the developer prioritized synthetic prodrug formulations like NB1111 for its glaucoma program.
