Umbilical cord blood-derived mesenchymal stem cells (UCB-MSCs) are a type of multipotent stem cell therapy being investigated by the Chinese PLA General Hospital for the regeneration of sweat glands in patients with deep burn injuries. These cells are characterized by their ability to differentiate into various cell lineages and their secretion of numerous paracrine factors, including growth factors and cytokines, which promote angiogenesis, reduce inflammation, and stimulate tissue repair. In the context of severe burns where the dermis and skin appendages are destroyed, UCB-MSCs are hypothesized to facilitate the reconstruction of functional sweat gland structures, thereby restoring thermoregulatory capacity and improving the quality of life for burn survivors.
