Overview

Umbilical cord blood-derived mononuclear cells (UCB-MNCs) are a heterogeneous population of cells harvested from umbilical cord blood, consisting of hematopoietic stem cells, progenitor cells, and various immune cells including lymphocytes and monocytes. These cells are being investigated for their regenerative, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory properties. Unlike isolated mesenchymal stem cells, the mononuclear fraction provides a diverse milieu of cells that can participate in tissue repair and immune regulation through paracrine signaling and direct cellular interactions. Clinical research is currently focused on treating refractory neonatal diseases, neurological damage such as encephalopathy, and complications following hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.
