Umbilical cord blood-derived mononuclear cells (UCB-MNCs) is an investigational cell therapy developed by Shandong Qilu Stem Cells Engineering Co., Ltd. for the treatment of refractory neonatal conditions, including hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE), bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), and short bowel syndrome (SBS). The therapy consists of a heterogeneous population of mononuclear cells isolated from human umbilical cord blood via density gradient centrifugation, which includes hematopoietic stem cells, mesenchymal stem cells, and various progenitor cells. These cells are hypothesized to function through paracrine signaling, secreting a variety of growth factors and anti-inflammatory cytokines that promote angiogenesis, modulate the immune response, and stimulate endogenous tissue repair and regeneration. In clinical evaluation, the cells are typically administered via intravenous infusion to neonates to improve outcomes in serious diseases where standard treatments are often insufficient.
