Overview

Umbilical cord blood-derived platelet-rich plasma (UCB-PRP) is a blood-derived biologic product prepared from the plasma fraction of umbilical cord blood, which is enriched with platelets. It contains high concentrations of growth factors, including platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β), and epidermal growth factor (EGF). These factors play critical roles in tissue repair, angiogenesis, and the modulation of inflammation. In clinical applications, UCB-PRP is utilized as a regenerative therapy for chronic wounds, such as diabetic foot ulcers, where it is applied via local injection or as a topical gel to stimulate healing in environments with impaired vascularity and cellular response. The Affiliated Hospital of Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine is investigating its use for diabetic foot ulcers in clinical trials.
