Umbilical cord blood mesenchymal stem cell-derived insulin-producing cells is a cell therapy program under development by LifeStem for the treatment of diabetes. The approach involves the in vitro differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) harvested from umbilical cord blood into functional insulin-producing cells (IPCs) that mimic the behavior of pancreatic beta cells. These cells are designed to sense blood glucose levels and secrete insulin accordingly, aiming to restore endogenous glycemic control and reduce the dependency on exogenous insulin administration. This therapy utilizes the regenerative and immunomodulatory potential of umbilical cord-derived stem cells to address the underlying cell deficiency in diabetic patients.
