Overview

Umbilical cord blood mononuclear cells (UCB-MNCs) are a heterogeneous population of cells isolated from the umbilical cord blood of healthy donors. This cell fraction contains hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs), mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs), endothelial progenitor cells, and various immune cells such as lymphocytes and monocytes. UCB-MNCs are being investigated for their regenerative and immunomodulatory properties in a variety of conditions, including spastic cerebral palsy, ulcerative colitis, and osteoarthritis. The therapeutic effect is believed to be mediated through the secretion of anti-inflammatory cytokines, growth factors, and angiogenic agents, as well as direct tissue repair and immunomodulation. Clinical trials have explored delivery via intravenous and intrathecal routes.
