**Umbilical cord-derived allogeneic mesenchymal stem cells (UC-MSCs)** are mesenchymal stromal/stem cells isolated from human umbilical cord tissue (commonly from Wharton’s jelly) and expanded in vitro for therapeutic use. These cells are characterized by their immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, antifibrotic, and proangiogenic properties, making them candidates for the treatment of autoimmune diseases, inflammatory conditions, and tissue repair. UC-MSCs can regulate immune response, reduce pathological inflammation and fibrosis, and secrete trophic factors, promoting tissue repair and regeneration. The therapy involves administering stem cells derived from donor umbilical cords to unrelated recipients (allogeneic). UC-MSCs have been tested in clinical trials for systemic lupus erythematosus, Crohn's disease, multiple sclerosis, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, immune thrombocytopenia, and moderate-to-severe COVID-19, among other conditions. Their mechanisms are primarily paracrine, influencing local immune cells and tissue repair processes via the release of anti-inflammatory cytokines, growth factors, and exosomes[1][2][3][4][5][6][7].
