Overview
This investigational cell therapy consists of human umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells (hUC-MSCs) formulated as topical eye drops. Developed by The Affiliated Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital of Nanjing University Medical School, the therapy is intended for the treatment of refractory dry eye disease, including both non-Sjögren's and Sjögren's syndrome-associated types. The hUC-MSCs are prepared as a single-cell suspension in a saline solution. The therapy works through immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory mechanisms, aiming to repair the ocular surface and improve tear film stability in patients who have failed conventional treatments like sodium hyaluronate.
