Umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cell (UC-MSC) infusion is a form of cell therapy in which multipotent stromal cells isolated from human umbilical cord tissue are administered to patients, typically via intravenous or intrathecal routes. These cells possess self-renewal and multi-lineage differentiation capabilities and exhibit immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties. The primary mechanism of action involves modulation of the immune response, suppression of inflammation, and promotion of tissue repair through paracrine signaling. UC-MSC infusions have been investigated for a range of indications including cerebral palsy, heart failure with reduced ejection fraction, neurological complications after ischemic stroke, pulmonary fibrosis (including post-COVID-19), graft-versus-host disease (GvHD), and other regenerative medicine applications[1][2][4][5][7][8]. Clinical trials have demonstrated safety in several patient populations with some evidence for efficacy in improving functional outcomes.
