This investigational cell therapy consists of allogeneic umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stromal cells (UC-MSCs) developed by Assistance Publique - Hôpitaux de Paris (AP-HP) for the treatment of severe, refractory systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). The therapy leverages the immunomodulatory, proangiogenic, and antifibrotic properties of mesenchymal stromal cells to reset the immune balance in patients who have failed standard-of-care treatments. Administered as a single intravenous infusion, these cells are manufactured from a single umbilical cord. The therapy has been evaluated in a Phase 1/2 clinical trial (NCT03562065) to assess safety and preliminary efficacy in reducing disease activity, as measured by the SELENA-SLEDAI score, in patients aged 18-70 years.
