Umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cell (UC-MSC) therapy is a cell-based regenerative medicine being developed by CTE Biologics for the treatment of Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE). The therapy utilizes the immunomodulatory and neuroprotective properties of mesenchymal stem cells harvested from the umbilical cord. Its mechanism of action involves the modulation of pro-inflammatory cytokines, the induction and expansion of T regulatory cells (Tregs) to restore immune balance, and the reduction of oxidative stress within the brain environment. By addressing these key pathological features of CTE, the therapy aims to mitigate neuroinflammation and promote tissue repair. It is currently being evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials.
