Overview

This investigational cell therapy consists of allogeneic mesenchymal stem cells derived from umbilical cord tissue (UCT-MSCs), developed by the Tehran University of Medical Sciences. The therapy is designed for intrathecal administration to treat children with spastic cerebral palsy, particularly those with white matter brain lesions. Mesenchymal stem cells are hypothesized to promote recovery in the damaged cerebral motor cortex through immunomodulation, the release of neurotrophic factors, and the stimulation of endogenous neural repair mechanisms. Clinical evaluation has proceeded through Phase 2 randomized, double-blind, sham-controlled trials, which utilized the Gross Motor Function Measure-66 (GMFM-66) to assess efficacy in improving motor function over a 12-month period.
