Overview

Umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells conditioned medium (UC-MSCs-CM) is a cell-free therapeutic product obtained by culturing human umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and collecting the culture supernatant. This medium contains a complex mixture of bioactive molecules secreted by MSCs, including growth factors, cytokines, chemokines, and extracellular vesicles. These components mediate paracrine effects that promote tissue regeneration, modulate immune responses (immunosuppression), reduce inflammation and fibrosis, protect against oxidative stress-induced cellular senescence, and support cell proliferation at sites of injury. UC-MSCs-CM is being investigated as an alternative to direct MSC transplantation due to its regenerative properties without the risks associated with live cell therapies such as immune rejection or tumorigenicity. It can be manufactured in various ways (e.g., with or without serum deprivation), freeze-dried for storage/transportation, and has shown potential in preclinical models for treating cardiovascular disease-related endothelial injury and age-related immune dysfunction[1][4][5].
