Umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (UC-MSCs) are an investigational cell therapy being developed by the Chinese PLA General Hospital for the treatment of severe, large-area burns and skin wound injuries. These multipotent cells are harvested from umbilical cord tissue and are utilized for their ability to promote tissue repair, reduce inflammation, and modulate the immune response through paracrine signaling and potential differentiation. In clinical applications for burns, these cells are transplanted onto the wound site to facilitate the regeneration of skin structures, such as sweat glands, and to accelerate the healing of extensive cutaneous lesions. The therapy aims to improve clinical outcomes and reduce scarring in patients with significant skin loss.
