Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This investigational cell therapy, developed by the Chinese PLA General Hospital, utilizes human umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells (hUC-MSCs) for the treatment of severe burns and large-area skin wounds. The therapy aims to accelerate wound healing, promote the regeneration of skin appendages such as sweat glands, and reduce systemic inflammatory complications. hUC-MSCs function primarily through paracrine mechanisms, secreting anti-inflammatory factors like TNF-alpha-induced protein 6 (TSG-6) and pro-angiogenic factors like vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). These cells modulate the immune response, reduce oxidative stress, and provide a supportive microenvironment for tissue repair. Clinical trials have evaluated their safety and efficacy when administered topically or in combination with skin grafts.
