Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (UC-MSCs) developed by Hebei Medical University are an investigational cell therapy being evaluated for the treatment of COVID-19. These cells possess potent immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties, which are hypothesized to mitigate the systemic inflammatory response and cytokine storm associated with severe SARS-CoV-2 infection. By secreting various paracrine factors, UC-MSCs may also promote the repair of damaged alveolar epithelial cells and improve the lung microenvironment. The therapy is typically administered via intravenous injection to patients with moderate to severe COVID-19 to prevent disease progression and accelerate recovery.
