Umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (UC-MSCs) developed by Hebei Medical University are an investigational cell therapy being evaluated for the treatment of COVID-19. These cells possess potent immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties, which are hypothesized to mitigate the systemic inflammatory response and cytokine storm associated with severe SARS-CoV-2 infection.
