Overview

This investigational cell therapy consists of allogeneic human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (hUC-MSCs) developed by the Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-Sen University. It is primarily being evaluated for the treatment of various stages of spinal cord injury (SCI), including sub-acute, early chronic, and late-stage chronic phases. The therapy is administered via repeated intrathecal (subarachnoid) transplantation, typically at a dose of 1 × 10^6 cells/kg. The mechanism of action is multifaceted, involving the paracrine release of neurotrophic and beneficial factors, immunomodulation to inhibit inflammation, promotion of revascularization at the injury site, and regulation of apoptosis to facilitate neural repair and functional recovery.
