Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (UC-MSCs) is an investigational allogeneic cell therapy being developed by Translational Biosciences for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), specifically for patients who have shown resistance to standard disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs). The therapy utilizes mesenchymal stem cells harvested from human umbilical cord tissue, which are expanded and administered intravenously. These cells exhibit potent immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties; they can migrate to sites of inflammation and secrete bioactive molecules that modulate the activity of various immune cells, including T-cells, B-cells, and dendritic cells. By shifting the immune environment from a pro-inflammatory to an anti-inflammatory state, UC-MSCs aim to reduce joint inflammation, prevent structural damage, and induce clinical remission in refractory RA cases.
