Overview

Umeta-Miyue is an oral probiotic formulation containing two specific strains of lactic acid bacteria: *Lactobacillus rhamnosus* GR-1 and *Lactobacillus reuteri* RC-14. Developed and marketed by BGI Genomics under the Umeta brand, this product is designed to support female urogenital health. The strains, originally licensed from Chr. Hansen (now Novonesis), are known for their ability to migrate from the gastrointestinal tract to the vaginal canal. Once colonized, they help restore the natural vaginal flora by producing lactic acid, which maintains an acidic environment, and secreting biosurfactants that inhibit the adhesion and biofilm formation of pathogens such as *Gardnerella vaginalis*. It is primarily utilized as an adjuvant treatment to prevent the recurrence of bacterial vaginosis (BV) and to manage vaginal dysbiosis.
