Overview

UMK57 is a small molecule allosteric agonist of the microtubule depolymerase KIF2C (Kinesin Family Member 2C), also known as Mitotic Centromere-Associated Kinesin (MCAK). It functions by increasing the catalytic activity of KIF2C, which promotes the destabilization and correction of erroneous, hyperstable microtubule-kinetochore attachments during mitosis. In the context of reproductive medicine, UMK57 is being researched for its ability to reduce chromosome segregation errors and mosaic aneuploidy during the first mitotic division of human embryos. By improving mitotic fidelity, UMK57 may prevent pre-implantation embryo arrest and improve the efficiency of in vitro fertilization (IVF) procedures.
