Umustat (LH011) is an orally bioavailable small molecule serine protease inhibitor. It is being developed primarily for the treatment of pancreatic cancer, where it is studied in combination with chemotherapy regimens like gemcitabine and nab-paclitaxel. Serine proteases play a critical role in the progression of pancreatic cancer by modulating the tumor microenvironment, promoting extracellular matrix degradation, and facilitating tumor cell invasion and metastasis. By inhibiting these enzymes, umustat aims to enhance the efficacy of standard cytotoxic therapies. It has also been investigated for its potential to inhibit TMPRSS2, a protease involved in viral entry for SARS-CoV-2.
