Overview

UNC7716 is a small molecule negative control compound developed by researchers at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. It serves as a structural analog to UNC7713, which is a first-in-class covalent antagonist of the H3K9me3 reader protein MPP8 (M-Phase Phosphoprotein 8). UNC7716 is utilized in preclinical research, particularly in studies of bladder cancer, to validate the specificity of MPP8 inhibition. In biological assays, UNC7716 exhibits significantly lower potency compared to UNC7713, with an IC50 for cell viability reduction approximately 200-fold higher than its active counterpart (56.03 μM vs. 0.28 μM). This compound is primarily used as a research tool to distinguish between target-mediated biological effects and non-specific toxicity in assays measuring cell proliferation, migration, and apoptosis.
