Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a topical antifungal and antibacterial combination drug containing **undecylenic acid**, **zinc undecylenate**, and **hexachlorophene**. It is primarily formulated for dermatological use, particularly in the treatment and prevention of various superficial fungal and bacterial skin infections. **Undecylenic acid** and **zinc undecylenate** are both fatty acid derivatives with broad antifungal (fungistatic/fungicidal) action, especially against dermatophytes like those causing tinea pedis (athlete’s foot) and other tinea infections. Their action involves disruption of cell membrane integrity in fungi, inhibiting biofilm and hyphal formation essential for fungal virulence[1][19]. **Hexachlorophene** is a chlorinated bisphenol antiseptic used for its potent bacteriostatic properties particularly against Gram-positive bacteria, acting via inhibition of bacterial membrane-bound electron transport and disruption of cell membranes, making it a valuable adjunct in mixed antifungal and antibacterial formulations[6][3][15]. The combination provides broad-spectrum coverage for mixed or resistant skin infections. This preparation is available as ointments or powders for topical administration. Indications include tinea pedis, tinea cruris, ringworm, and related fungal or bacterial superinfections.
