Overview

UNI911 is an inhaled and intranasal formulation of niclosamide, an anthelmintic drug repurposed for the treatment and prevention of COVID-19. Developed by UNION therapeutics in collaboration with TFF Pharmaceuticals, UNI911 utilizes Thin Film Freezing (TFF) technology to create a dry powder formulation that overcomes the low oral bioavailability of niclosamide. By delivering the drug directly to the lungs and nasal epithelium, UNI911 aims to achieve high local concentrations necessary to inhibit viral replication. Niclosamide is known to exhibit broad-spectrum antiviral activity by modulating host cell pathways, such as acidification of endosomes and induction of autophagy, which are critical for viral entry and replication.
