Overview
Unifive is a liquid pentavalent vaccine developed to provide active immunity against five major childhood diseases: diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, hepatitis B, and Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib). It is a combination of diphtheria and tetanus toxoids, inactivated whole-cell Bordetella pertussis, recombinant hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg), and purified capsular polysaccharide of Hib conjugated to a tetanus toxoid carrier. As a fully liquid formulation, it eliminates the need for reconstitution in the field, thereby reducing the risk of contamination and administration errors. Unifive is WHO-prequalified and is primarily utilized in national immunization programs across various developing nations to improve coverage and reduce the number of injections required for infants.
