Overview

UNImAb_Ent is an IgG1 monoclonal antibody being developed by Immunethep, a Portuguese biotechnology company, targeting the extracellular form of bacterial glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH). GAPDH is a highly conserved protein that, when secreted by bacteria like *Escherichia coli* and *Klebsiella pneumoniae*, acts as a virulence factor by impairing the host's immune response. UNImAb_Ent works by binding to and neutralizing this extracellular GAPDH, thereby restoring the immune system's ability to recognize the pathogens and promoting opsonophagocytic clearance. This approach is intended to treat severe bacterial infections, including those caused by multi-drug resistant (MDR) strains, offering a non-antibiotic alternative for infection management.
