Drug intelligence / Profile preview
UNImAb_Staph is a therapeutic monoclonal antibody program being developed by Immunethep, a Portuguese biotechnology company. The drug is an IgG1 monoclonal antibody designed to target bacterial glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (bGAPDH), a protein released by bacteria such as *Staphylococcus aureus* (including MRSA and VRSA) and *Staphylococcus epidermidis*. Bacteria utilize extracellular bGAPDH to suppress the host's immune response, facilitating infection. UNImAb_Staph works by neutralizing this extracellular protein, thereby restoring immune function and mediating bacterial clearance through opsonophagocytic mechanisms. This approach is intended to provide a treatment option for multi-drug resistant staphylococcal infections and is part of a broader pipeline targeting common virulence factors across multiple pathogenic bacterial species.
