UNIPla-E is a placenta-derived mesenchymal stem cell (MSC)-based cell therapy being developed by PLABiologics for the treatment of macular degeneration. The therapy utilizes the company's proprietary UNIPla platform technology, which involves the isolation of high-purity mesenchymal stem cells from the placental chorionic plate. UNIPla-E is designed to leverage the regenerative and immunomodulatory properties of these MSCs to provide anti-oxidative, anti-inflammatory, and anti-apoptotic effects within ocular tissues. The therapy aims to address the degeneration of the macula and the resulting visual impairment. As of the latest reports, UNIPla-E is in the GLP-Tox (Good Laboratory Practice toxicology) stage of development.
