Unitorium

Unitorium is a brand-name generic version of the antibiotic ceftriaxone, manufactured by Uni-Tech Pharmaceutical (Pvt.) Ltd. It is a third-generation cephalosporin that exhibits broad-spectrum bactericidal activity against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The drug's mechanism of action involves the inhibition of bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs). This binding prevents the final transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis, leading to the weakening of the cell wall and eventual osmotic lysis of the bacterium. Unitorium is primarily indicated for the treatment of serious infections, including lower respiratory tract infections, bacterial meningitis, septicemia, and urinary tract infections, and is also utilized for surgical prophylaxis.
