Universal CD123 CAR-γδT cells are an investigational allogeneic chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy being developed by Hebei Senlang Biotechnology. This therapy utilizes gamma-delta (γδ) T cells, a unique subset of T lymphocytes that possess innate-like properties and recognize antigens in an MHC-independent manner, thereby significantly reducing the risk of graft-versus-host disease (GvHD) compared to conventional alpha-beta (αβ) T cells. The cells are genetically engineered to express a CAR specific for CD123 (the alpha chain of the interleukin-3 receptor), a cell surface antigen highly expressed on acute myeloid leukemia (AML) blasts and leukemic stem cells. By targeting CD123, these "off-the-shelf" cells aim to provide a potent and readily available treatment option for patients with refractory or relapsed AML, particularly those who have failed prior hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.
