Vaxine's universal influenza vaccine candidate (also known as CapM2e) is a preclinical-stage vaccine designed to provide broad, cross-strain protection against diverse influenza A viruses. The vaccine is based on a modular capsomere platform presenting the highly conserved extracellular domain of the influenza Matrix protein 2 (M2e). To enhance its immunogenicity, particularly for vulnerable populations such as newborns and infants, the recombinant CapM2e antigen is formulated with Vaxine's proprietary Advax-SM adjuvant, which is a delta-inulin-based formulation. Preclinical studies in animal models have demonstrated that both direct neonatal immunization and passive maternal immunization with CapM2e + Advax-SM elicit high levels of protective anti-M2e antibodies, significantly reducing viral replication and lung viral load upon challenge with lethal doses of H1N1 and H3N2 influenza strains.
