Overview

Centivax's Universal Snake Antivenom is a combination therapy currently in preclinical development for the treatment of snakebite envenomation. The therapeutic candidate consists of a three-component cocktail of broadly neutralizing human antibodies combined with varespladib, a small molecule phospholipase A2 (PLA2) inhibitor. The antibodies were derived from the memory B cells of a hyperimmune human donor with extensive snake venom exposure and are designed to target conserved neutralizing epitopes on both long and short snake neurotoxins. In preclinical in vivo studies, the antivenom demonstrated complete protection in mice against whole-venom challenges from all 19 WHO Category 1 and Category 2 snakes, including highly lethal species such as the black mamba, king cobra, and tiger snake.
