Overview

This is an investigational DNA vaccine developed by researchers at the University of Oslo, designed to provide broad protection against multiple strains of Influenza A. The vaccine utilizes a mixture of plasmids that encode protein heterodimers representing sixteen different influenza A virus hemagglutinin (HA) subtypes. A key feature of this platform is the targeting of the expressed antigens to MHC class II molecules on antigen-presenting cells (APCs), which enhances the immune response toward conserved, subdominant epitopes that are shared across different viral subtypes. In preclinical mouse models, the vaccine demonstrated the ability to induce cross-reactive antibodies against both included and non-included HA subtypes and provided partial protection against lethal H1 virus challenges.
