Overview

Unpulsed peripheral blood mononuclear cells + saline is a placebo control intervention used in the ATTAC-II clinical trial (NCT02465268) for the treatment of newly-diagnosed glioblastoma multiforme. Developed by the University of Florida, this intervention consists of autologous peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) that have not been loaded (pulsed) with any tumor-specific antigens, such as CMV pp65 RNA. It is administered via intradermal injection in a saline solution to serve as a comparator for evaluating the efficacy of CMV RNA-pulsed dendritic cell vaccines (pp65 DC). The trial investigates whether the active vaccine, when combined with tetanus-diphtheria toxoid and temozolomide, improves outcomes compared to this unpulsed cell control.
