unripe banana peel powder and lemongrass oil gel

An investigational topical gel composed of 10% unripe banana (Musa sapientum) peel powder and 0.1% lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus) oil, being developed by the Universidade do Vale do Sapucaí in Brazil for the treatment of chronic ulcers. It is a natural product-based therapy. The proposed mechanism of action for its wound healing properties involves leucocyanidin, a flavonoid found in unripe banana peel, which is believed to promote enhanced vascular proliferation, fibroblast proliferation, and re-epithelialization. A completed Phase 1 clinical trial (NCT04963829) evaluated this combination gel against a gel containing only the banana peel powder and a standard collagenase ointment. The product is currently an academic research project without a commercial brand name.
