UP446

UP446 (brand name Attenutin) is a patented botanical composition developed by Unigen Inc., consisting of a standardized blend of baicalin (a free-B-ring flavonoid from *Scutellaria baicalensis*) and (+)-catechin (a flavan from *Acacia catechu*). It functions as a dual inhibitor of the cyclooxygenase (COX) and lipoxygenase (LOX) enzymes, thereby modulating the arachidonic acid metabolism pathway to reduce the production of pro-inflammatory eicosanoids and leukotrienes. Clinically, UP446 has been studied for its ability to support immune function in healthy adults, specifically by enhancing the production of influenza-specific IgG and IgA antibodies following seasonal vaccination. It also exhibits antioxidant properties, as evidenced by increased glutathione peroxidase levels, and has been investigated preclinically for its analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects in models of rheumatoid arthritis.
